DALLAS/FORT WORTH - The Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association (TACA) hosted its 2017 Short Course Mar. 2-3 at Cavalry Court in College Station with 57 attendees from across the state.

    The two-day conference hosted several educational seminars and includ-ed a golf tournament at the Traditions Club, a sporting clay shoot at the Tonkaway Ranch, a mountain biking trip, a private winery tour, and a networking reception.
    On the first day, Gary Mullings, National Ready Mixed Concrete Associ-ation, (NRMCA), spoke about workforce development in the ready-mixed con-crete industry, and Rick Kolster, Peak Performance Group, got everyone thinking about generational changes and how they affect how business is done today.
    On the second day, Melissa Fitts, Westward Environmental, and Chris Pepper, Winstead PC, discussed recent changes to the Air Quality Standard Permit for Concrete Batch Plants. Also, John Smart, Winstead PC, reviewed changes to laws affecting human resources, and Dr. Mark Dotzour, real estate economist and former chief economist of the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, was the final speaker. –mh
